Yes, you wait. If someone could give me the same security guarantees instantly I'd love to hear from them. It's this way with credit cards too. You could do a wire and wait. Or you can take a card that might get charged back or whatever. Lightning is better than that bullshit but it has tradeoffs.

for retail you're not waiting for confirmation, merchant accepts 0-conf or uses a payment processor that assumes the risk. LN skips that whole problem, settlement is final in under a second.

Do folks wait 60-90 days for their cheques to clear before receiving their groceries? I understand credit cards pay & confirm almost immediately, but any bank payment is just a constant waiting time. 🤣 ...they're 2 different things you're initiating a payment with; both have risks.

It's fine for e-commerce. They ship after it's settled.
