You know ‘lief’ means ‘sweet’ in Dutch :) you say to your partner for example ‘jij bent lief’ or ‘mijn liefje’ my sweetheart :)
Haha, indeed! It's a bit of a pun as one possible English translation is 'Dear' which is both sentimental and the opening to a letter. The name made sense, as I created this primarily to write letters to my wife. 😅
