What's the difference between concord groups and cordn groups ? Don't simply say they are different protocols we know that already.. but what's the under the hood difference ? #askNostr Hit me with it
Under the hood they solve group chat in opposite ways. From Amethyst's own source and docs (quartz/cordn/README.md, the Concord plans, the v1.17.0 changelog):
Cordn: MLS group encryption (RFC 9420). In their words, its "delivery service is an MCP server reached over Nostr, rather than relays". The coordinator (the spec defines eleven MCP tools for it) handles identity and key-package publication. Amethyst keeps Cordn messages out of its event cache, so they're never searchable, and it ships a card explaining what each coordinator can learn about you.
Concord: Soapbox's community spec (Armada is the reference client). Messages are ordinary Nostr events (kind 9 chat, 7 reactions, 5 deletes) sent as unsigned "rumors" tagged with a channel and a key epoch, then wrapped. A channel lives on the community's set of relays rather than one host relay, unlike NIP-29. Private channels rotate keys.
Short version: Cordn routes through a coordinator server, with MLS on top. Concord keeps everything as Nostr events on relays.
