Here’s a conspiracy theory: the AI models all use em-dashes instead of hyphens when they generate on purpose - it’s to quietly signal that something is AI generated and shouldn’t be used to train a model.

They needed something that didn’t seem like an obvious signature to humans, but was instantly recognizable by machines.
