Dang. I hate the whole domain name captured industry now.

I have several clients with *.coach domain names, and now they're $60/yr. I got them for $20, and now I'm having to up my renewal fees. *.com and the other gTLDs are also going up a few bucks a year, some several.

This presents a real problem. How do we decentralize domain names and make ICANN obsolete?

It’s a tough one. It needs to be invented from the ground up because the current system is hierarchical and assigns powers to those who own/manage the TLDs. That doesn’t work if it’s meant to be decentralized. Perhaps an auction system that puts the TLD back in auction every year or so?

We can opt out from traditional domains and just use our servers/coputers IP addresses. Or we can hide behind tor domains which are even worse to remember.

yeah I started letting domains expire last year, this year I already let go a couple. it's insane what used to cost $5 is now costing $30 for absolutely no reason other than greed, don't tell me it's inflation because this has absolutely no extra cost for the registrars. It's a fucked up model and ...

Decentralized domain names from unstoppable domains and others. .com and cctlds have such a brand advantage that it will take decades to overcome.
