It gets a lot better when you get rocket fuel for the jetpack, but yeah it's a hassle. I stopped trying to play it the "right way" and just did whatever was easiest. I did end up having to design a pretty intricate storage system, but other than that, most of the phase stuff I did haphazardly. The stator/rotor/motor crafting was especially obnoxious.
