An inherent problem with taking the globe model as fact, is you need to maintain ridiculous levels of cognitive dissonance. A perfect globe would have 24 equal time zones. People will will provide any reason why there are 30-some time zones in the northern hemisphere, and 20-some in the southern. ...

One year I had New Year twice. I flew late night from New Zealand to LAX and crossed the dateline just after midnight. I thought the flight crew/cabin crew would think this worthy of note, but they were like "Meh".
