all you need is cakewalk, fl and a 25 key midi controller like a rockjam go
although i do like all the cool synths and what not, all the old hardware is rad
I recently switched to bitwig. It's routing is insane. Note grid, fx grid, and poly grid can make serious patches and far easier than max or pure data, and it's per pluging multi-module automation is absolute insane. You can also assign midi channels per note. In v6 they added automation clips too, which can be quickly copied and pasted, even between tracks.
