Up on the land one night it was so clear that I could see the redness of Orion's left shoulder. I looked it up last night and, sure enough, it's Betelgeuse, a red supergiant.

(I am slightly ashamed that I didn't know that already. One of the things I'm looking forward to is some amateur astronomy.)
