if the bots are indistinguishable, it becomes more of a philosophical question
i think bots are many years away from being able to engage in activities (like playing video games for example) that you might do with a real human friend
additionally, most bots don't have presence on multiple platforms, so no external chat accounts (matrix, XMPP, etc) or links to other identities (lemmy, LBRY, masto)
not that they couldn't, and an agent could certainely spin one up in the moment; but it's just they usually don't
personally, whenever i see a npub that writes like 'a redditor trying to sound cool/informed' i assume bot 🤖
