unfortunately one needs the shitcoin to pay the blockchain fee for the @SimpleX Chat testname claim transaction.

Is there a service which can be used to spend bitcoin directly for this and the service takes care of the shitcoin paying thing? I assum not, since the spend must come from the ether pubkey wanting to hold the simplex testname?

We are planning to support other payments for .simplex names when they launch, including in-app payments. Right now you can use any swap service, including Unstoppable swap - they even have a SimpleX Chat bot for that. So, create an account in metamask, swap say $1 worth of ETH, that should cover ...

For 1 BTC doesn't bring anymore privacy than Eth does, and 2 since SNS is an EVM smart contract you would have to trust a third party to register and hold your SNS domain, which would defeat the original purpose. Won't maxis ever learn anything?
