I hope someday reposts and zaps completely replace the need for “likes”/🤙🏼.

Reposts and zaps are true value exchange…and have a real cost: your reputation or money.

Likes are superficial and exist only to inform an algorithm.

Relevance algorithms have their place, but they are best informed by a truly costly action.

That’d definitely change the rate at which I “like” something to be closer to my repost rate.

Devil’s advocate: Zaps are asymmetric for rich vs poor. For some the value of a zap would be high, for others neglible. For wealthy or high-follower accts (which is somewhat correlated), reputational cost of liking is far higher than cost of zapping.
