I have talked to el salvadoranians , who aren't bitcoiners, and they do say it's way better now. But they also recognise he has all the qualities of a dictator. They say they prefer it this way. But they are fully aware of what's going on.
I've never been, so I can't really judge, and it takes a lot of knowledge of a place to understand the intricacies of how it is, the people etc.
But the fact that bitcoiners are just plainly ignoring this and being his puppets is surprising.
