My Auto Chassis (purchased in Italy, but the same set existed here) was $60 in 1986. That’s $190 now. For 662 pieces, almost $.30/piece.
LEGO sets are now usually $.10/piece. And the custom parts are few, designed with reuse in mind, like the Stranger Things Demogorgon heads on the orchid set.
