Does anyone ever go down obscure learning pathways?
In years past, when I would try to pick up bits of a language, I would suddenly find myself going down a wild adventure on Wikipedia or elsewhere and would then decide to learn some outdated script or obscure dialect.
For example, I visited Vietnam for the first time maybe decade ago and decided to start learning about the history of its language. I discovered Chữ Nôm and really wanted to find some resources to learn that script. Mind, I hardly knew any Vietnamese, so knowing characters for a language I didn't speak made little sense. I mean, the only real reasons to do that would be to geek out for fun AND get some nerd street cred.

Does anyone else do stuff like this?
