You can't tax rich people on unrealized gains
from stocks because "it's not real money until
it's sold".

So explain to me why my property taxes keep
going up based on the unrealized value of my
house?

didn't sell it.
didn't cash out.
didn't make a profit.

But somehow I'm paying taxes on paper gains
every single year.

You're paying taxes for the expenses of the services to your home, which increases with inflation, not the paper gains

It's slavery with extra steps, under the banner of "taxes" which were originally just a way to fund the authorities separate from slavery. Very confusing, as the English language is often designed to be

Property taxes aren't going away. Instead taxes on unrealised gains are coming... To make the system "fairer"...

Some defend property taxes by saying they are used to fund necessary services for your home, which is technically true. But by far the largest use of property taxes in the United States is to fund what are still called "public schools," which today generally teach the children of heritage Americans ...

At least with some other kinds of taxes, the formula is transparent and comprehensible -- everyone pays 5% of all sales, for example. But with property taxes, they make an "assessment," always crazily wrong and which can change by 10x in an instant, and a "mill rate," which is equally variable, arbi...
