TREASURY REPORT ACKNOWLEDGES LEGITIMATE USES FOR CRYPTO MIXERS

A new report to Congress from the US Treasury Department says digital asset mixers can serve lawful purposes, including protecting financial privacy on public blockchains.

According to the report, individuals may use mixers to shield sensitive information about personal wealth, business payments, or charitable donations from being publicly visible on-chain.

Treasury also notes that as digital asset payments grow, users may increasingly rely on privacy tools to prevent their spending habits from being exposed.

The report adds that custodial mixers operating as compliant money services businesses must register with FinCEN, maintain records, and file suspicious activity reports.

When compliant, these services can provide regulators and law enforcement with customer identities, transaction data, and behavioral insights tied to illicit flows
