This is unfortunately a naive idealism. In reality, this isn't what happens. A vote abstained is a vote for the people who explicitly and openly hate us.

If there is an option to vote for a completely dysfunctional government, then one should exercise it. It is functional government that is dangerous.

That's a psyop. The government claims legitimacy over you anyway. Now you have relinquished the small amount of power you are able to project.
