Zaps allow for the distinction between liking what someone says and valuing it, and the distinction between those two.

I agree. I hadn't put it into words, but I do feel like both have their place/use.

Oui Chef. I value your opinion and respect you. Thanks for sharing your opinion which can be crass and eloquent at the same time. Brilliant.
Nic · 90w
That is spot on. You put into words what I was feeling, but could not properly articulate. That's value.

TBH It also communicates the decreasing marginal utility of money from small money holders to big money holders. In other words if you have got a lot of money you would use those zaps more freely than if you haven't. In the latter case your propension to liking is higher than zapping.

I'm looking forward to Canadian users being able to set up a wallet and send / hopefully receive zaps. 😊

While there likely is at least a distinguishing variable, “liking” something seems to imply an appreciation of some kind of value.

I zap most posts instead of liking
Beefy · 90w
likes without zaps is an insult

Wise words indeed. It’s a subtle yet powerful distinction—zaps add depth to interactions, showing not just appreciation but real value.
