Anyone can run a 5$ domain and attest millions of pubs to names, why would and should they care about verifying anything?

Yes. I think that means there will someday be a quality to the verification. That is [email protected] will be more meaningful and desirable than [email protected]. Kind of like a Good Housekeeping seal.
