ive been wanting an old fashioned waterwheel. maybe a belt drive to a slow rpm windmill motor.
but i always come back to the fewer moving parts, less maintenance principle

I have a creek running through my property, but no more than two metres of head, and maybe 20 days of flow per year (Australia...).
I've thought about hooking up a "centripetal" / "Tesla" water turbine (these scale down better than others, even if the peak efficiency isn't great), but after maintaining bearings etc the juice will never be worth the squeeze.
I'd love a wood-fired steam engine, but the regulations are absurd.
Pyrolysis-gas kiln to feed my genset, maybe one day...
