I’ve thought the exact same thing. MREs have a massive shelf life and can be prepared without electricity too, making them ideal for folks in tough situations.

I guess a single military-grade MRE costs the government around $9 to $12 to produce and assemble.
So, ​if a person eats three MREs a day, thats roughly $30 a day, or about $900 a month per person. This doesn't include shipping and logistics to actually get it to the people.

Way cheaper to give them $200/mo on a card.

200 fiat doesn’t go far at the grocery store but i agree, much cheaper to give an ebt card with a digital balance than manufacture something to eat
