Just like money, most people dont understand how music works. How does the song go from an artists head, turn into a song, get onto Spotify, and into your earholes? Theres a workflow, a music pipeline...
Also, for those who don't know, Bandcamp is the absolute best platform for music lovers. Artists can set a limit on free streams, they can dictate how much they charge for an album (sometimes not even requiring a minimum). The majority of revenue goes to them, and ALL of the revenue goes to them on Bandcamp Friday events.
At the consumer level, you own what you pay for. Not only is the music permanently in your library for unlimited streaming, you're given access to a variety of lossy and lossless file downloads (I usually go with FLAC). You can buy physical CDs, vinyls and even cassettes and MiniDisc in some cases (no joke). When you buy a physical copy, you get the digital files in all the formats and the unlimited streaming. Not to mention that you can sometimes get a band/label's entire discography for a discount; I got almost 500 "nostalgia music" albums for $3 because of that.
They also have basic social media features. Add a short message to the band when you buy. Comment on new music/merch releases. Follow others to get new ideas on what to buy. Leave brief reviews of your purchases. The list goes on. I've even gotten keys for free digital copies of albums thanks to labels giving them away to fans who use the social features.
In general, I don't know why ANY band or musician isn't on Bandcamp. It's objectively the best platform for artists and listeners both. Definitely use & support them if you can! We need more services like Bandcamp.
