one of the subtle indicators of the douchebaggery that has infiltrated American culture can be seen simply buying screws. So many woodscrews come with their own “special” bit, rather than using the widely standardized system that makes lots of different tools work together. and its done thinking they might manipulate you into just buying more of their screws. so quality is replaced with manipulation.
Some call this “good business” or “smart”. And those people are the douchebags we are referring to.

American industry used to have interoperability as a cornerstone. Bigger pie for everyone when working together. Now it’s me me me me. Let’s have an interop renaissance

100%. User-hostile weird screws used to hold power tool cases together are the worst. Yes, I get it, Madam Western/Japanese Brand, you want me to replace not repair. But if I can't repair, I will instead buy Chinese white label tools that I can repair.

Use those combo screws which work with Phillips and Robertson bits. No vendor lock-in.
