Exodus 25:18-19 (KJV):
And thou shalt make two cherubims of gold, of beaten work shalt thou make them, in the two ends of the mercy seat.
And make one cherub on the one end, and the other cherub on...
The Cherubim are not for worship. In fact they face each other. The serpent also was not too be worshipped. God also directly addressed Moses and instructed him according to the cunning workers chosen.
Nothing about setting up an image of God which is an abomination!
Leviticus 26:1 Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I am the LORD your God.

7. And when he had broken down the altars and the groves, and had beaten the graven images into powder, and cut down all the idols throughout all the land of Israel, he returned to Jerusalem.

There are plenty more examples. The Scripture clearly states that what you make of your hands, not instructed to do so by God, is an abomination when it is to be a focused and worshipful thing.

The blood of Jesus Christ is the final act that has already washed away the sins of men who believe! No image, icon, statue or corporal thing that is sense oriented.
