Gold has been "sound money" for thousands of years and governments STILL found a way to confiscate it, ban its ownership, and eventually abandon the standard entirely.

That's not a knock on gold specifically but rather a knock on any asset that requires physical custody and can be seized by force.

Self custody fixes this.

I find it interesting that a narrative has been that gold is better for nation states because they can melt it down and obscure spending.

Hey i'm a btc maxi but this is poor framing. Govts and mafias exist to take stuff by force. Things they commonly take include land and freedoms. Bit of a stretch to suggest self custodying BTC fixes such things.
