I hate preparing talks, but I've realized I hate it less when slide prep involves writing my own functions for how I want things formatted and then knowing they will be applied uniformly. Typst has some flaws -- it says it's all markdown, but in practice it's closer to LaTeX than it will admit, but it's also not quite LaTeX, so there are also things you can't do.... still. This addresses my greatest pain points with Powerpoint and LibreOffice. I will probably either stick with Typst or move to LaTeX when I hit its limits.

Ah yes, now I remember why I dropped Typst the last time I picked it up. When you go to start the presentation, it says that's only available with a Pro subscription (creating the presentation is free). I can download a PDF without paying anything, but still. Dark patterns. I avoid businesses that ...
