Dead meaning oxidized? Much lower thermal conductivity if so. Try google reverse image lookup or just put a pic of it onto a multi-modal LLM and ask

Yeah, it showed the oxidation almost as soon as it began heating up. I tried cleaning and re-wetting the tip but it didn't help, unfortunately.

You probably already figured this out but at the risk of stating the obvious in case it helps, the Google recommendation was for finding the brand so you can find compatible better soldering iron tips.
