BEWARE TRAVELING TO 🇭🇰 HONG KONG WITH BITCOIN HARDWARE WALLETS

Hong Kong has updated enforcement rules under the National Security Law as of March 23, 2026.

Refusing to provide passwords or decryption assistance to police is now a criminal offense, covering ALL personal devices including phones, laptops, and likely hardware wallets.

The rule applies to everyone in Hong Kong, including US citizens, even if only transiting through the airport.

Authorities also have expanded powers to seize and retain devices they claim are linked to national security investigations.

Travelers are advised to understand the risks before entering or transiting through the region.

There’s no reason to ever travel with a hardware wallet.

Wow, even if just transiting through? That’s insane.

One more reason Coldcard wins. IF you have to travel with a signer, having one with trick pins and can easily have decoy wallets indistinguishable from the real thing can make cooperating with authorities quite relatively harmless. To say nothing of things like BIP-85. 'Here officer, let me show ...

Coldcard with trick pin, or travel one at a time and do key teleport so no one is crossing the border with a Coldcard either active private key in it.

Easy. Travel with a Tangem cold wallet. Delete the app and download it again when you need to use it. You can carry the card ot the ring with you all the time.
