I want people to care more about Mississippian mounds because they keep destroying them, and the fact that they keep destroying these buildings is an outrage! We've already lost so many of them to tillage, expanding cities, looters, etc.
These are the pyramids of eastern North America. People should care more! I found out earlier this year that there's a city in Alabama that destroyed a mound just 16 years ago, and they used it for backfill! It was a 900-year-old mound that was actively being studied by careful archaeologists, and they turned it into fucking backfill!
There was another site with a complex of three mounds in Georgia called the Little Egypt Site. It was destroyed in 1972 to during the construction of a dam.
And there's so many others that have been destroyed.
