As a daily Wayland user, I firmly stand against the removal of X11 support. Wayland has a lot of great features to it but not every application or game place nice with it. I get the sentiment that X11 is an outdated standard, because it is. However, there's a reason many people hate Wayland and it's not simple hate for change: there are still ways that X11 is better suited for users.

The fact that two of the most popular DEs (Gnome and KDE Plasma) want to go Wayland-only is problematic, especially when Linux is finally starting to hit its stride and bring in new people. If games or applications people want to use either have major bugs or simply don't work, that is not going to help keep up this momentum.

People are fixing that. There's a Plasma 6 fork known as SonicDE, which is willing to fix the KDE part. For GNOME, it's best to stick with Cinnamon (GNOME 3) or MATE (GNOME 2), as those do better on XLibre anyway. Removing X11 from anything basically breaks everything. I'm an XLibre user myself, so...
