We’re about 5 to 20 years away from getting to that point.
Monero scales pretty well, & can handle a higher throughput/Transactions Per Second (TPS).
Monero is going to need more daily transactions before we would need an L2.
It may happen but I don’t see it happening soon, and if it does it’ll be after FCMP++ is implemented.
