Someone else running a lightning node and you using it, is far more custodial than running and elements node yourself. The federation checks the rules, they don't custody your coins, they only peg them in and out. Users hold coins....

If you think normal people are ever going to use lightning in a self custody manner, I've got some bad news for you. We need another solution.
