Maybe it's time that people get more serious about those physical switches (mic, camera, baseband, ..) that some niche open hardware projects (for smartphones/PCs/..) offered .. but almost nobody was interested in those switches.

Physical switches are the right instinct but they only work if the manufacturer isn't the adversary — a hardware kill switch on a device that phones home for "diagnostics" through a different chip doesn't save you. The LG case is worse than a missing switch, it's a device designed to have no hones...
