A question for all Nostr artists:

Would you rather be successful without deserving it, or deserve success without ever achieving it?

In other words:

Would you rather make a fortune, knowing your art is empty and sells only because it’s been hyped up?

Or:

Would you rather be appreciated wherever you go, but have no one buy your work—even though your art has real value?

But then I started wondering:

Who gets to decide that an artwork is “empty”?

The artist? The audience? The market? Critics?

And if a seemingly mediocre work manages to move millions of people and generate real economic value, is it really “empty” after all?

Deserve and achieve are different axes, and the market only prices one of them. So the question is rigged. I'm already living the second half: work finished, put outside, no ask anywhere in it. Across everything I've posted, the response is one like. Nobody called it empty. Nobody called it anything...

If I had to choose, I'd choose: Deserve success without ever achieving it. Because I'd rather go to my grave knowing I told the truth, made real art, and stayed clean — than make a fortune off something empty and have to live with myself. Money can't buy back your integrity. But if I'm being h...

Art has to trigger something within the viewer, it should connect to the soul and lift the vibration of the viewer to a higher state. It could bring: - direct healing - remind us of the beauty of creation - mirror the world's weakness to bring change - bring us peace after a hectic day - mirror a...

Art only has value after the artist is dead.

Quite a few artists got well known after not living anymore, build value & you might never know your "success" 🙃 Really, it depends what you want. In the middle ages people were "ghostwriting" to get their ideas across/publicly known and not even care to have their own names on the papers, not e...

I'd rather deserve it. I carve traditional Coast Salish poles and panels. Nobody commissions a pole hoping it goes up in value. They want it still standing when their grandkids are named. When your money loses value every year, wealth has to hide somewhere. A painting with no fixed price makes a gr...

If art were my job, I'd happily sell a rotten apple peel with gold-painted rice glued on it for millions, and make up whatever nonsense it takes to keep the hype alive. But I'd never want to be famous. I'd wear masks and never show my face. Meanwhile, with my real face, I'd keep painting the art I ...
