Imagine a pilot getting angry because one of the plane's engineers told him that one of his engines was faulty and needed repair. That would be the most weirdest thing ever given how that's lifesaving...

I know a few (anoying) academics who are the school example of being indoctrinated long enough to think that what feels to be true must be true. And then dismissing any other thought that would result in them being wrong.
The cognitive dissonance won't allow it, the mission is to alter the explanation of reality to protect the ego, and there are ZERO consequences if they end up being wrong (so they conclude). These people I am able to get very angry, but can rarely convince, even afterwards if all evidence shows I was right 🤯
Conclusion, some people are NOT in pursuit of truth, but just to win an agrument to protect their ego.

The difference with an Engineer (my choice in life) is that the output of what an engineer creates is either working or not and the engineer is smacked in the face by reality. The opinion of what an Engineer thinks should work or end up to be true is irrelevant after a product displays it does not work outside his mind. Ego aside, an engineer can then work as long as it takes to make it work, and the result will be something working. If it works then you can be proud imho.

It's hard to accept tthat there will always be people who CHOOSE not to understand. But it is up to me to notice and then conclude there was no intention of a debate or conversation in the first place, thus I should stop, turn around and go do something productive again 😁

My two sats on the topic 😂

Intellectual rigidity isn’t exclusive to academics—it’s a human flaw amplified in any echo chamber, including tech. Reminds me of an article on AI’s limits in engineering; some assume automation means obsolescence, but the reality is more nuanced. https://theboard.world/articles/will-ai-r...
