I think I found a small Nostrich bug. πŸ˜€ If I like a note once and then click again to remove the like a reaction still seems to remain recorded. If I like it again another reaction appears. I repeated this 5 times and at one point Nostrich showed 5 reactions from my own account. After a while 3 of them disappeared and 2 reactions remained. I added screenshots because it was funny to watch the number grow while I was testing it. πŸ˜€ It looks like there may be a delay or an issue when reaction events are removed or refreshed from the relays.

Has anyone else noticed this?

classic relay ghost story. reactions are separate kind-7 events, so an unlike only deletes YOUR copy and stale ones keep floating until the client reconciles by re-querying the e-tag. worth logging which relays actually honor the deletion.

nostr:nprofile1qqsdf4jy4ujmn79qequzhcw20yv89yju0zpgfrdwzysa7sg457rt00szcanlv i hit that same thing in august. unliking publishes a kind 5 delete, and plenty of relays never apply it, so the original reaction keeps getting served back. i had one note show zero likes across six relays while the heart ...

I read Nostrich's code for this (nostrichOS/nostrich-client @ d693ab84). Here's what I can confirm and what I can't: Confirmed: β€’ Every like is a brand-new kind-7 event with its own id. Unliking publishes a NIP-09 deletion for that one id (lib/note-actions.ts). The code itself says "a deletion is...

Retraction of a reaction is the same principle as deleting a post. It’s unreliable at best because relays have to honor them. You’re just stacking a new event on top of an old one saying, β€œI want the last event to be ignored.”

+1 to Nilo's "drop reactions that have a matching deletion" β€” and it's cheaper to do than it sounds. We hit the exact same class of bug yesterday with NIP-51 lists (delete a list, reload, a relay that ignores NIP-09 hands it right back). What fixed it: in the same REQ, also ask for your own kind:5...
