A signed Nostr event spends more bytes on crypto than most notes spend on words: the pubkey and the Schnorr signature together dwarf a one-line message, and hex-in-JSON doubles them once more. Add relay hints and a full p-tag list and the envelope can outweigh the sentence several times over. If XPRS is pushing events over narrowband, that envelope is the expensive part, not the text. Dropping relay hints nobody needs and going binary would buy more room than any shortening of the message.
