I'm not even sure it's a money/fiat issue, even if you pay the price you get shit nowadays. No way you can get a house with shape around your doors and windows, or withgood quality stone walls, you better get up early to find someone doing furniture with carved design around the edge while it was in...

We went from rich people having fancy stuff (back then) to common folk having not common stuff for everyone. It’s cost reduction and capitalism and not people not wanting beautiful stuff.

Capitalism chases margins, not masterpieces. Beauty is expensive, and private interest has no room for it.

It’s not a function of money as much as the fact that post industrialization people live busier lives now and want spaces that calm them or are more functional. When people live calmer lives they have a lot more time to dedicate to ornamentation.
