It was my hope that the benefit of interoperability would greater than every dev's ego to know better. It's just disappointing. It is kind of ironic that there's many great use cases for Nostr but Soc...

DM's are the most exclusionary form of communication possible, what does it have to do with ''Social Media'', not much at all.
Nostr is a protocol for PUBLICations, it is right there in the word, it is for things that are meant to be shared. You can fence things off a bit here and there, but only when you accept that it won't be water tight in all places in all moments.
Oh, and lets ignore that ''DM's'', have been completely open to the service provider since forever, be that email, facebook, twitter etc. and that delivered a smooth and easy experience now every suddenly demands when it comes to encrypted methods.
Nostr is perfect for Social Media;
Any intermediated system inherrently undermines privacy in its complete set of dimensions (content, meta-data, forward and backward secrecy etc.)...and i have you know that the INTERnet itself is already one such intermediated system.
