Let me comment on https://blog.codeberg.org/protecting-our-floss-commons-from-llms.html I don't want to get to the issue itself, but I really dislike sentences like “In Frankfurt, data centers already now consume 40% of the local electricity, and demand is rising.” That report (https://www.oeko.de/en/publications/environmental-impacts-of-artificial-intelligence/) is from May 2025, so it is really hard to attribute the rise of energy consumption to LLMs, which were not that prevalent then, and especially not outside of US/China. It seems dishonest to blame LLMs for our already high energy consumption.
