I started casually following F1 a few years ago because I like cars and because it’s a nigger-free sport (with one glaring exception obviously).
And it’s interesting to watch the worldly, condescending, oh-so-sophisticated F1 folks make many of the same mistakes that brought NASCAR low - most notably the whoring of itself for every single dollar while removing races from beloved tracks in favor of more “lucrative” venues.
The other mistake it has made recently is to allow automotive manufacturers to dictate far too much of the engine formula. They kowtowed to Audi’s demand for a 50/50 power split between ICE and electric in order to lure them into the field, and it has resulted in cars that are literally unable to run flat out around a road course. Drivers are deliberately entering famous track corners noticeably slower so they can harvest electrical energy for the straights, only to have the engines run out of power and begin slowing down before they can reach the end of the straights.
Any beloved sport or activity that attracts big money is inevitably ruined by it.
