Nostr DMs with throwaway npubs is the way to go if you want a truly decentralized, private, censorship-resistant messaging.

How would they censor you on signal or simplex if the code is open source and the messages are encrypted?

Signal was proven to be encrypted in transit and rest. The Signal stuff is just FUD. If one uses it, it'd be better if they used it for family and friends.

Exactly. Negotiating the price of a great used yacht for sale https://www.yachttrading.com/used-yachts-for-sale/ requires this level of operational security. You don't want the seller seeing your "I must have this boat" messages to your friends.
