One of the great puzzles of UK politics is why a Govt. that leaps to 'rescue' the Steel sector, or move to reorganise the railways, cares so little about the plight of the University sector.

Both as an 'exporter' (via foreign students' fee income) & delivering demonstrable public good (providing education to a large cohort of future workers & innovators), surely we'd expect the Govt. to be focussed on averting the sector's growing crisis.... but no, its not.
