The answer is: Dan Simmons. Yeah—ha, that doesn't really answer the question. All right, then: Herbert was, of course, the better writer, but who was the better author/futurist? Clarke.

Hyperion was a terrible book. The ending was horrible. Better futurist? I'm surprised to admit that it might have been Clarke. Many of the things he predicted came true, and his work with NASA outside of his writing is extremely impressive. #reading

#Hyperion by Dan Simmons actually ends with the pilgrims linking arms and walking toward the Time Tombs while singing "We're off to see the Wizard, the wonderful Wizard of Oz". WTF! His ending is jarring and cheesy AF compared to the rest of the serious sci-fi narrative in the book. What a shame. #b...
