This stat is sadly very revealing. Most people stop using #Damus because #Nostr doesn’t have the algorithms designed to keep people addicted. Most people are conditioned to expect a constant stream of stimulation and a dopamine hit from the algos. So for most people Nostr feels empty and devoid of content. I’m not sure how we can break people of this addiction.

I think the stat is useless with nothing to compare it to.

With Damus, i regularly see notes that have no easily viewable upsteam links, so context is lost. It's like always hearing the punchline before the joke. To me, that's a bigger issue than Apple spiking the zaps.

#Freedom is addiction! Fuck the algos! I love #nostr and people I chat with on here ! My notes will stay here forever! That’s #1 reason why people should be addicted.

Each protocol and platform has its own niche. Nostr is not a Twitter and he has his own way. Over time, you get tired of monotonous content, and you don’t want to publish something else for the same reason. I hope the situation will change over time, but in my opinion it is not necessary for Nos...

I like being social media sober. I feel like I can focus much more now.

Interesting. I had the same experience. Started using Nostr, got bored and ignored it up until a few days ago. Hadn't been using Twitter, etc. as well. So maybe users just need to "detox" from social media in general and then they can start fresh on Nostr without getting addicted again.

Maybe, during signup, we could have a screen, where users select their interests: Cooking, Hiking, blabla.... These interest then could be mapped to hashtags or lists. And these would be automatically added to the user during sign up, so they could get already a prefiltered flow of notes. Just my ...

Damus broke for me I think when I attached my pubkey to Primal.

Although a tempting narrative, is there data to support this no-algorithm hypothesis? Perhaps there's value in collecting secondary contact info in order to follow up with a sample of users on how their onboarding experience was and if they stopped using Nostr, why?

I would like to read more non bitcoin/economy people, but I don't know how to find them

Why not offer starter packs during key creation? A curated list of accounts to follow for different niches. It would allow Nostr not to feel empty. And maybe help against impersonating scams.

I left LinkedIn because my posts were throttled. I left Twitter because of shadow bans. I didn't come here to speak into a vacuum too. Build algos and distribute posts.

No, this is wishful thinking. From my experience, Nostr is often 'dead' when you post things and there is generally little engagement, so the impression many users get is that nobody is interested. If nobody is interested in engaging then people feel that they are wasting their time. This could in...

You can be addicted to people and your own interests…or maybe it’s better that way, as in nostr creates a healthier lifestyle around social media and having touch grass time

I’m actually quite happy here!

That's not it. It's just the network effect. It's good that these people know about Nostr now, it will be easier for them to come back later when Nostr is bigger.

I think as engagement between users naturally grows, people will start sticking to the app. When people unknowingly curate their own communities on #nostr, they’ll compare the feeling of being on here vs being back on an algorithm fed app and realize the toxicity driven dopamine hits aren’t as...

I think it's just a matter of getting people others want to follow on to this platform. People go to where their friends & favorite celebrities are, and once they're following enough of them the algorithm ceases to matter as much

I'm not sure what exactly is the difference between Nostr and Mastodon.
