Excellent question. The answers will be different for every person.

Ultimately, no jurisdiction should be trusted, but jurisdictions where you are socially embedded and fluent in the culture usually have the lowest risk.

Ideally, one would spread the risks attached to such identifiable assets between multiple jurisdictions and multiple legal identities, but I don't have enough net worth to justify that at this point.
