Problem that I myself have refused to see.

Although most hardware wallets are open source, there is no incentive for them to be reviewed by a third party.

There is a huge industry of podcasters who promote hardware wallets.

Bitcoin Core is the most reviewed software in the space.

The purpose of hardware wallet is remote signing to spend. It's astounding the number of people who have been convinced to buy a hardware wallet who don't need one, because they're not spending, only saving for the long term.

Why review when you can try to exploit? Are independent software developers really doing anything that a walled garden with customers who would sue them are not.

there was an incentive for a third party to review coldcard. Sadly not a good one! Everyone should be pointing the AIs at their own code.

one solution is visible review log. you note which parts of the code have been looked by whom, and you publish the result tog together with the code. this creates a gradient towards actually making software more secure over tume

The problem I see is that Bitcoin itself has become an industry, now largely a non-value add industry, chasing its tail and shooting itself in the foot.

This is probably a newbie question, but why does it seem like almost nobody uses Bitcoin Core as their main wallet? Basically everyone talks about Wasabi, Sparrow, Electrum...
