Trump’s war is a failure. Still, what has all this rule by religious fanatics cost Iranians over nearly 6 decades? They could have been a prosperous, peaceful country.

Mosaddegh had the country on a path to tremendous prosperity, but of course this wasn't to the liking of UK and USA, who both wanted the oil. So they did what they do best, which was to fuck everything up and install the Shah in 1953. The religious revolution took place as a reaction to the useless Shah and his colonial masters. So, blame the UK and the USA... as usual.

No argument. But look across the Straight at all of the prosperity of the Gulf States. After kicking out colonial rulers, including the USA, Iran’s leaders didn’t have to choose a crippling, suffocating theocracy.
