I think there is no wrong way ... and for me it depends on the situation if they're in my replies consistently being annoying i will let them know ... otherwise i just quietly mute or unfollow

I write the word muted after muting them. But it's probably better not to even mention it.

Tell them you love them and how did they get so smart etc - then mute. 😉 Thanks!

I usually tend somewhere between C and B. I would defnitly mention that I mute, when a certain behaviour goes on. But it is mostly users, that are not trying to explain and harrass others for no benefit to the conversation.

I've done all three. Usually not the second one, that gives them too much power hah
